This was a UK film. Any film from the UK before 01/01/1946 was in the Public Domain at the time of GATT and not eligible for GATT restoration.
So after that you check the status to see if there was a copyright renewed in the U.S. I checked "Gaslight", "Angel Street", "A Strange Case of Murder" and "The Murder in Thornton Square". All of these were variant titles. There was no copyright renewal in the U.S.
